Can you tell us your love story of how you met and how you fell in love?

My husband, Joey, and I met six years ago in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, while we were both working at the Dutch embassy. It was love at first sight. Joey was replacing my friend, so I asked if I could join her for the introductory dinner she was taking him to—and the rest is history. After that first dinner, we found ourselves sharing meals every night and exploring Ethiopia on several unforgettable trips together.

When Joey returned to the Netherlands a few months later, we weren’t sure when we’d see each other again, but we were certain we wanted to be together. Six months later, I moved to the Netherlands, and it quickly became clear that this was where I belonged. I found not only my dream job but also my dream partner. Today, we are the proud parents of three fur babies and couldn’t be happier.

Why did you choose this dress and what did you like the most about it?

I spotted the dress online while scrolling through Instagram and instantly knew it was the one! I made an appointment at De Bruidszaak, although I was a little nervous because the Modeca dress was so stunning and I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. It ended up being the very first dress I tried on, and as unusual as it sounds, Joey came with me. The moment he saw me in it, he cried. It felt perfect not just for me but for him as well. What I loved most about the dress was its off-shoulder design, the soft ivory colour, the delicate flowers on the bodice, and the long, flowing train. The lovely owner of De Bruidszaak, Caroline, encouraged me to try on a few other dresses, and I did, but deep down I already knew that first one was the right choice.

Where did you get married and why did you choose this venue?

We got married at the Havixhorst in Meppel, the Netherlands, and wow, what a stunning venue. It was actually the very first venue we visited, and we instantly fell in love with it. From the charming rose gardens to the elegant halls, every part of the chateau felt perfect for our celebration. Our day was truly magical thanks to the incredible staff, who took care of every detail with such care and attention. Our guests had an amazing time, and so did we.
